AKUA Career Academy

Meet Ms. Susan

I am Susan Akua Mariam Badu, a relentless advocate for change and empowerment. From Ghana to the United States, my journey has been fueled by an unwavering commitment to support those in need. Today, I am thrilled to introduce you to Akua Career Academy, a non-profit organization that holds a special place in my heart.
Armed with a bachelor’s degree from Marymount College, an MBA from Regis University, and a Master’s degree in counseling from New York University, I have dedicated over three decades to working with individuals facing diverse challenges. From disabilities to mental health issues, substance abuse, criminal backgrounds, and beyond, my career has been defined by a passion for making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
As a licensed mental health counselor, I have provided invaluable support to married couples, families, parents, and individuals grappling with grief. My role as an autism intervention specialist has granted me the privilege of working closely with autistic students. In contrast, my work with families navigating the intricacies of adoption and foster care has deepened my understanding of the human experience.
Motivated by a distinct vision, I established Akua Career Academy to offer practical training for job skills in vital fields like construction, masonry, food service, customer service, automotive repair, building upkeep, childcare, healthcare, and farming. My ultimate goal is to empower every student, irrespective of their background, to achieve economic and emotional self-sufficiency. I am committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their disabilities, economic status, or orphaned status, has equitable access to quality education and rewarding career opportunities.
Your support is invaluable to us. With your assistance, we can equip our students with the skills and opportunities they need to build brighter futures. Join us in making a tangible impact. Together, let’s provide the transformative gift of education, skill development, and hope to those who need it most.

Meet Naomi

As a dedicated undergraduate at Widener University pursuing an accelerated Psychology Pre-Physical Therapy (3+3) track and a minor in African American Studies, my commitment extends far beyond the classroom. On campus, I hold leadership roles as President of The Black Student Union, Co-President of The International Society of Psychology, and am actively involved in The National Society of Black Women in Medicine. Additionally, I serve as a National Student Exchange participant, Peer Development Coordinator for the Center of Civic Engagement, a Pride Mentor for incoming first-year students, and a University Ambassador.
Under the mentorship of Mrs. Susan Akua Badu, my esteemed mother and founder of Akua Career Academy, I am honored to contribute to our mission of providing essential opportunities to our fellow Ghanaians. While my experience may not match hers yet, I’ve gained invaluable knowledge and guidance that has shaped my journey. Passionate about global service, I’ve traveled to three continents, reinforcing my dedication to uplifting communities worldwide. Inspired by my experiences in Ghana in 2012, I am driven to expand our academy’s reach, providing physical therapy services and educational opportunities.
Your support means the world to me and our academy. Thank you for considering joining us on this incredible journey. Together, we can make a lasting impact and create brighter futures for all.
